The Central New York Flute Choir has been in existence since 1989. The ensemble is composed of amateur to semi-professional adult flute players of all ages. Members play a variety of flutes, from piccolo to bass. The CNY Flute Choir is directed by the husband and wife team of Barb and Brad Bridgers. We perform at various local events and locations and have also played at the National Flute Association’s Annual Convention.
The CNY Flute Choir is made up of adults who really like playing the flute. We currently rehearse on Tuesday evenings at LeMoyne College and are accepting new members. For information, contact us at CNYFluteChoir(at)gmail(dot)com
History
In 1988, The
Flute Choir was organized. It began with a small group of adult amateur
flutists and was designed to provide area flutists of any playing level
a group in which to play and develop their skills. There is no
audition - everyone is invited. The size of the group changes from year
to year. We perform two formal concerts each year – one in December and
one in May. We also play at local nursing homes, senior citizen
centers and other local venues. Some highlights of the last 20+ years
include performing at the National Flute Convention in Boston, touring
the Central New York area and performing in local churches, and
appearing on one of Big Mike’s Christmas CD’s. In the last few years,
the ensemble has been fortunate to have Brad Bridgers, who joined the
choir in 1993, write some exciting arrangements for the choir.
